There is a demand for social alternatives in the time of COVID-19, and NO adequate solutions exist.
Students are TIRED of Zoom meetings.
Members of the Wazzup team interviewed undergraduates from each of the four classes at UR, as well as incoming first years. When interviewed, students felt that university sponsored Zoom meetings:
"Seems [sic] like more work than fun... you have to TRY to make Zoom social events fun."
"Just make me tired and make me feel like I wasted time."
"[Are] a subpar way of making friends."
Our app connects students with common interests and suggests COVID-safe activities!
WHY DID WE MAKE WAZZUP?
A Word Cloud of student responses to the interview questions. The common themes that emerged were missing community and connection.

WHO WILL BENEFIT FROM WAZZUP?
We aim to connect the entire UR student population, especially first years, sophomores, and transfer students who might not have had a chance to create strong friend groups.
This app will allow them to safely meet new people and form genuine connections through in-person meet ups.
With success, we can expand to other college campuses.
